HC Deb 08 December 1977 vol 940 cc813-4W
Mr. Watt

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he proposes to take to stop the dumping of Irish beef on the United Kingdom market.

Mr. Hugh D. Brown

I have been asked to reply.

Imports of beef from the Irish Republic enter the United Kingdom subject to the terms of the Community's beef regimé and agri-monetary system. The trade which is taking place is thus not contrary to Community provisions. I am aware that the quantities of Irish beef on the United Kingdom market have increased this year and my right hon. Friends and I will take full account of this and other relevant factors in the forthcoming EEC negotiation of prices for the 1978–79 marketing year.
