§ Mr. Sproatasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what latest estimate he has made of the number of retirement pensioners living alone in Northern Ireland.
§ Mr. CarterThe total number of retirement pensioners in Northern Ireland on 30th June 1977 was about 182,000. There is no recent comprehensive information on the type of household in which they live, but a survey of the circumstances of retirement pensioners in 1965 showed that about 21 per cent. were then living alone.
