Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what amount of benefit is payable to Mr. David Williams, a fireman on strike, if he were to be unemployed and claimed for his wife and four children; and how this compares with his present social security payments for his wife and four children;

(2) in view of the fact that Mr. David Williams, a fireman on strike living in Upperthorpe, Springfield, Sheffield, was granted for his wife and family social security payments totalling £48.24, which was certified as correct but subsequently reduced, if he will state to what figure it was reduced; and if he will itemise the payments in each instance.
