§ Mr. Sproatasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many Girocheques originally issued by his Department, were returned to the local office that issued them to a social security claimant from the location where such cheques are kept when encashed, at the request of the local 520W office, in the latest 12 months for which figures are available.
§ Mr. OrmeAn encashed Girocheque may be requested by a local office of my Department for a variety of reasons. In the 12 months ending October 1977, some 87,000 Girocheques were returned to local offices at their request from the Girocheque reconciliation centre.
