HC Deb 02 December 1977 vol 940 c476W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Prime Minister, in the light of the fact that notwithstanding the approach he has made to Ministers to deal more expeditiously with their mail, it is now rare for an hon. Member to receive a reply in less than one month, where it should be possible to provide the answer in a few days, and that delays of between four and 12 weeks are invariably being experienced by hon. Members, what further action he proposes to take to restore the situation to what it was some years ago when formal replies were received within one week or 10 days, and complete and detailed replies within a month.

The Prime Minister

Ministers are already aware of the need to ensure that correspondence is dealt with promptly.
