HC Deb 01 December 1977 vol 940 c293W
Mr. John Garrett

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the average expenditure per pupil on primary and secondary education by English education authorities, and by Norfolk County Council.

Miss Margaret Jackson

The net recurrent costs per pupil at maintained schools in England were as follows:

1975–76 (1976 Survey Prices) 1976–77 (1977 Survey Prices) provisional
£ £
Primary 263 296
Secondary 404 448

My Department does not prepare figures of costs per pupil for each local education authority, but analyses of their estimates and expediture are contained in the education statistics published annually by the Chartered institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, copies of which are in the Library.
