asked the Secretary of State for Energy what is the current amount of money devoted to research and development of nuclear power.

Net expenditure by the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority in 1976–77 on research and development in direct support of the nuclear power programme was £101.7 million. This included expenditure of £.10.5 million on specific reactor design and development work in industry. In addition, the Department of Energy spent £17 million in support of the tripartite gas centrifuge project for enriching uranium.
