HC Deb 01 December 1977 vol 940 cc317-8W
Mr. Speed

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what percentage of the total number of persons from the New Commonwealth and Pakistan allowed to settle in the United Kingdom in 1976 was not wives and children or male United Kingdom passport holders.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

It is estimated that in 1976 35 per cent. of those citizens of the New Commonwealth and Pakistan who were allowed to settle in the United Kingdom either on arrival or on removal of the time limit on their stay were not wives and children under 18 or male United Kingdom passport holders.
