Mr. Sillars

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the district general hospitals which still require to be constructed in Scotland; and if he will state the planning progress to date on each one.

The list is as follows:

  • Inverclyde Royal Hospital, Greenock—Construction is virtually complete.
  • North Ayrshire District General Hospital, Kilmarnock—Construction continues and is expected to be largely completed in 1978.

  • Inverness Central Hospital—Phase II—Tenders have been received and are under consideration.
  • Paisley District General Hospital—Tenders are due to be received in January 1978.
  • West Lothian District General Hospital—The Health Board's Pre-Design Cost Limit submission to my Department is under consideration.
  • Borders District General Hospital—PreDesign Cost Limit stage should be reached by end of December 1977.
  • West Fife District General Hospital—PreDesign Cost Limit stage by the end of February 1978.
  • Caithness Central Hospital, Wick—Phase II—At planning stage leading to preparation of Pre-Design Cost Limit.
  • South Ayrshire District General Hospital—Phase I—At preliminary stages of planning; not yet formally approved in principle by my Department.
  • Motherwell District General Hospital—Phase I—At preliminary stages of planning; not yet formally approved in principle by my Department.
