HC Deb 01 December 1977 vol 940 c291W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on relations between Her Majesty's Government and El Salvador.

Mr. Rowlands

We have normal diplomatic relations with El Salvador.

Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether, in view of the suspension of United States military aid to El Salvador on human rights grounds, he will reconsider the decision that Great Britain is to sell secondhand equipment to the Salvadorian army.

Mr. Rowlands

A contract for the supply of certain equipment for El Salvador's external defence was signed some time ago. Assurances have been sought from the Government of El Salvador that in no circumstances will it be used against Belize.
