30. Mr. Monro

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what have been the levels of beef imports from Ireland for the last three months for which figures are available.

Mr. Bishop

This year United Kingdom imports of beef from the Irish Republic were 10,000 tonnes in July, 14,200 tonnes in August and 12,800 tonnes in September.

53. Mr. Henderson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the quantity of Irish beef imports during 1977 to date compared with 1976 and 1975.

Mr. Bishop

Between January and September this year 87,496 tonnes of beef were imported into the United Kingdom from the Irish Republic. This compared with 66,687 tonnes and 46,205 tonnes in the corresponding periods of 1975 and 1976 respectively.
