HC Deb 01 December 1977 vol 940 c417W
49. Mr. Michael Marshall

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what discussions he has had with the Advisory Committee on Pesticides regarding the effect of azinphos-methyl on livestock.

Mr. Strang

In 1959 this pesticide was the subject of normal clearance procedures, based upon the Advisory Committee's recommendations; and it has since been further considered by the Committee on eight occasions before new or wider uses were permitted. In each case this involved detailed evaluation of risks not only to livestock but also to food consumers, users, wild life and the environment. As requested by the hon. Member, the Advisory Committee has been asked for a further appraisal with particular reference to actual or potential risks, if any, to livestock. I will inform the hon. Member of the outcome.
