HC Deb 29 April 1977 vol 930 c463W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what plans he has to compensate disabled housewives for expenses incurred due to their disability since the non-contributory invalidity benefit was introduced for other categories of disabled persons;

(2) when he intends to make the noncontributory invalidity benefit available for disabled housewives.

Mr. Morris

As I have already announced, in my reply to the hon. Member for Kidderminster (Mr. Bulmer) on 8th February—[Vol. 925, c.626]—non-contributory invalidity pension, which is paid on the basis of incapacity for normal or alternative work, will be extended to married women in November of this year. In accordance with normal national insurance provisions, the benefit will not be paid retrospectively.
