§ Mr. Macfarlaneasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will provide an up-to-date list of the universities and colleges which have now indicated their willingness to take part in the Centres of Excellence Scheme; and if he will publish the names of the 30 or 40 centres to which he referred in column 1363 on 6th April during the debate on the White Paper.
§ Mr. Denis HowellOver 230 universities and colleges in England and Wales have shown an interest in the establishment of centres of sporting excellence, and nearly 90 of these are able to offer sports facilities and/or coaching and tuition of a high standard.
As I said in my reply to the hon. Member on 25th October 1976, some centres meeting the requirements of centres of excellence have been in existence for many years. New centres operating or under consideration are:
