§ Mr. Kilfedderasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he will make a statement on the progress made on the building of the new prison, including the expenditure incurred so far and the anticipated expenditure in 1977–78.
§ Mr. ConcannonWork on the construction of the perimeter wall for the new male prison at Maghaberry has already started and tenders have been received for the provision of main services and site development. It is anticipated that tenders for the main building programme will be sought in the latter part of the summer. Up to 31st March 1977, £1,308,000 has been spent on site acquisition and other works and it is expected that a further £1.8 million approximately will be spent in the financial year ending March 1978.
