HC Deb 27 April 1977 vol 930 c358W
Mrs. Bain

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many of the Scottish regions have adopted a policy of early closure in primary schools; and what action, if any, he intends to take in view of recent claims by teachers' unions that such steps are, in fact, hidden part-time education.

Mr. McElhone

Education authorities are responsible for determining the length of the school day for different schools, stages, classes and pupils. My right hon. Friend is generally aware of the policies adopted by authorities and does not regard any of these as constituting part-time education.
