asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary Schools in Wiltshire have been closed, or decisions taken to close them, since 1st April 1975; and how many children from these schools have been or will be transferred to voluntary aided, controlled or county schools respectively.

My right honourable friend the Secretary of State has approved the closure of one voluntary aided primary school in Wiltshire since 1st April 1975—Chute Church of England Aided Primary School. When this school is closed the children then on roll (there were 32 in January 1977) will transfer to the county primary school at Ludgershall.

How many Church of England Voluntary Aided Primary and Secondary Schools have been closed, or decisions taken to close them, since 1st April 1975; and as a result of the closures actual or prospective, how many children have been or will have to be transferred to other voluntary aided, controlled and county schools respectively.

Since 1st April 1975, approval has been given under Section 13(4) of the Education Act 1944 to the closure of 31 Church of England aided primary schools and three aided or special agreement secondary schools containing 2,180 primary and 1,111 secondary pupils. Detailed information is not available about the alternative schools to which these pupils have been, or will be, transferred.
