HC Deb 26 April 1977 vol 930 cc280-1W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will publish the numbers and percentage of staff in each of the following nationalised industries and public corporations who are registered disabled: British Broadcasting Corporation, British Steel Corporation, National Freight Corporation, British Airways, British Transport Docks Board, Electricity Council, Independent Broadcasting Authority, United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, British Airports Authority, British Gas, North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board, British Waterways Board, Post Office, British Railways Board, National Bus Company, National Water Council, South of Scotland Electricity Board, Scottish Transport Group and the National Coal Board.

Mr. John Grant

Comprehensive information about a wide cross-section of the public sector, including most of these employers, has already been published in the November 1976 issue of theDepartment of Employment Gazette, together with an explanation of the factors which should be borne in mind in considering these statistics. As I said in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Birmingham, Perry Barr (Mr. Rooker) on 18th January—[Vol. 924, c. 135]—little purpose would be served by extending publication to include all public bodies. I will, however, bear in mind the possibility of enlarging the information given when I next consider the publication of quota figures for public sector employers, and would expect to include some of the bodies mentioned by the hon. Lady.
