HC Deb 26 April 1977 vol 930 c269W
Mr. Brotherton

asked the Attorney-General what is the total number of community law centres in the United Kingdom; how many are in receipt of central Government funds; how many are in receipt of local authority funds; and what is the total amount of public money made available to them in the latest year for which figures are available.

The Attorney-General

There are at present 25 agencies recognised as law centres in England and Wales. 17 of these are supported in part from central Government funds; the total of public money provided for those in 1976–77, including contributions from local authorities, was £402,948. The remaining eight centres received various grants from local authorities concerned, but I am not aware of the detailed amounts. There are many other agencies which provide some legal services but which are not included in the above figures.
