§ Mr. Arthur Lathamasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if it is his intention to use his power under Section 2 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 to transfer cannabis and cannabis resin from the list of Class B drugs to the Class C list.
§ Dr. SummerskillBefore exercising that power my right hon. Friend is required by the Act to consult the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs. The Council is at present urgently considering a number of related matters connected with cannabis and cannabis resin, but the issues are complex, and we do not expect the Council to be in a position to formulate its advice for some time yet.
