HC Deb 25 April 1977 vol 930 cc238-9W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Minister for the Civil Service whether he will publish in the Official Report details of the latest wage and salary increases to civil servants; when these were paid; what were the actual amounts or average increases, the number of recipients, the date of application, and the total annual costs of these increments; and if he will give details for the immediate earlier increases when paid.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

The latest pay settlement provides for a supplement of 5 per cent. of earnings subject to a minimum of £2.50 per week and a maximum of £4 per week for full-time adults. The settlement, which is within the limits of stage 2 of the pay policy, is effective from 1st April 1977 and applies to some half-million non-industrial civil servants. The estimated annual cost of the settlement is £85.5 million. The previous pay settlement for the non-industrial Civil Service was the supplement of £6 per week—subject to an upper earnings limit of £8,500 per annum—for full-time adults effective from 1st April 1976 at an annual estimated cost of £171 million.
