HC Deb 25 April 1977 vol 930 c257W
Mr. Thorpe

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps he proposes to take to ensure that nursing staff employed in private registered nursing homes are paid not less than the salaries negotiated through the Whitley Council for similar employment in National Health Service establishments.

Mr. Ennals

None; the responsibility for determining the level of pay of staff employed in private registered nursing homes rests with their employers. They may, of course, choose to apply the Whiley Council terms and conditions of service negotiated for nurses in the NHS.
