Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he is now able to make a statement on the decentralisation of responsibility for employment and training to the Secretaries of State for Scotland and Wales.

Mr. Booth

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 6th August 1976; Vol. 916, c. 1139], gave the following information:

I announced on 6th August 1976 that the Government had decided to transfer from myself to the Secretaries of State for Scotland and Wales responsibility in those countries for the activities of the Manpower Services Commission and its executive arms the Employment Service Agency and the Training Services Agency. Following consultations with the Commission and with others concerned, my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister has given approval for the transfer of responsibilities to take effect from 1st July 1977. Responsibility for oversight of the Careers Service in Scotland and Wales will be similarly transferred from the same date.
