HC Deb 21 April 1977 vol 930 cc139-40W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what action he is taking to increase the number of registered disabled persons employed in (a) the Royal Mint, (b) the Inland Revenue, (c) National Savings, (d) Her Majesty's Customs and Excise and (e) Her Majesty's Treasury; and when he expects to achieve the 3 per cent. target in each case.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

All recruitment is governed by rules laid down by the Civil Service Commission which include a code of practice for the employment of registered disabled persons. Preference is given to registered disabled persons subject only to their ability to undertake the duties required. Every effort is being made to increase the number of registered disabled employed. The Royal Mint already employs more than 3 per cent. registered disabled persons but I am not able to forecast when the targets will be achieved in the other Departments.
