HC Deb 21 April 1977 vol 930 c155W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what use is being made of the Building Research Station by the Scottish Development Department, the Scottish Special Housing Association and new towns and local housing authorities in Scotland in finding new methods of overcoming the problems of dampness and condensation in multi-storey blocks and other dwellings.

Mr. Hugh D. Brown

Wide use is made by my Department and by housing authorities of the specialist advisory service of the Building Research Establishment (Scottish Laboratory) on building problems, including those associated with dampness and condensation. In 1971 a study by the Scottish Development Department and BRE resulted in the issue of a memorandum "Condensation: Diagnosis, Treatment and Remedial Measures in Existing Houses" to all housing authorities in Scotland. BRE has recently co-operated also with the National Building Agency in the production of reports for Glasgow District Council on condensation problems in flats.
