HC Deb 19 April 1977 vol 930 c66W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if, consequent upon his recent statement, he has any objection to cigarette advertisements claiming that brands have been approved by the Independent Scientific Committee on Smoking and Health, the Hunter Committee; and if his agreement with the industry included provision for references to the Hunter Committee itself to be made in cigarette advertisements.

Mr. Moyle

The advertisement I have seen includes, with permission, an extract from a letter received by the advertiser from the Chief Scientific Adviser to the Hunter Committee which states precisely the conclusions of that committee in relation to the use of a particular tobacco substitute. This seems to me neither objectionable nor inconsistent with the agreement with the industry which was reported in full in my right hon. Friend's reply to my hon. Friend on 8th March.—[Vol. 927, c.463–5.]
