HC Deb 07 April 1977 vol 929 cc667-8W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will list all the places of work at which strikes, pay-offs, or lock-outs have taken place during the first three months of 1977, of which his Department has been advised, giving the numbers of persons affected in each case,

the Official Report a table showing the number of persons engaged in approved appenticeships, by category of trade, for each of the past five years.

Mr. Golding

This Department compiles statistics showing the numbers of apprentices employed in manufacturing industries in May of each year. For engineering and related industries, the inquiries are more detailed and some analyses by occupation can be given, but these are available on a comparable basis only from 1973.

The following table provides estimates of the numbers of apprentices employed in May of each year from 1971 to 1975. Corresponding information for 1976 will be available in the early summer.

and giving the first and last dates of each of the industrial disputes.

Mr. Golding

It is not my Department's practice to publish statistics of stoppages of work due to industrial disputes naming industrial establishments or companies.

Aggregate figures and analyses are published regularly in the Department of Employment Gazette.
