HC Deb 07 April 1977 vol 929 cc704-5W
Mr. Robert Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether her Department has made a study of the availability of books of larger print for partially sighted children, particularly those suitable for advanced learning.

Miss Margaret Jackson

A major project funded by the Schools Council, grant aided by my Department, at Birmingham University is concerned with the production of materials to help partially sighted children use their limited vision. So far as books are concerned, I understand that ordinary print of clear definition, with the use of visual aids, is suitable for the majority of partially sighted pupils. Most special schools for this group of children have access to enlargers and offset litho copying equipment as well as other teaching aids.
