HC Deb 06 April 1977 vol 929 cc572-3W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the policy of his Department on encouraging the hospital service in Wales to purchase goods and supplies that have been manufactured in Wales.

Mr. Barry Jones

We are anxious to see that Welsh-based manufacturers obtain as many orders as possible in fair and open competition. Health authorities in Wales are encouraged to seek tenders from Welsh firms and where appropriate to apply the preferential arrangements laid down in the Government contract preference schemes. Responsibility for contract decisions lies, however, with the health authorities, and it is left for them to use their commercial and professional judgment.
