§ Mr. Merlyn ReesUnder the Police Act 1964, the primary responsibility for the appointment of a Chief Constable and for the maintenance of an efficient police force rests with the police authority for the area concerned. I already receive regular reports from Her Majesty's Inspectors of Constabulary to assist me in discharging my responsibilities under the Act.
