§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Wales what experiments have recently been conducted in Wales to determine new means of rural transport; and what has been the outcome of such investigations.
§ Mr. Barry JonesA number of experimental public transport schemes are currently being conducted by county councils in Wales in co-operation with bus operators and voluntary bodies.
The Government's own experimental project in Dinefwr, one of four in Great Britain, will introduce a range of services early this summer, including a post bus, a voluntary emergency car scheme, a community car service and the extended use of school buses to carry fare-paying passengers. We hope that it may also be possible to investigate the effects of a controlled relaxation of the bus licensing laws.
