HC Deb 04 April 1977 vol 929 cc358-9W
Mr. Kenneth Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he will list the NEDC sector working parties which have recommended to the Government that they need stability in the rate of value added tax imposed on the goods manufactured by their sectors.

Mr. Cryer

The Domestic Electrical Appliances SWP stressed the importance of stability in the rate of value added tax applying to the sector's products. The Non-Ferrous Foundries SWP asked that there should be no increase in VAT on certain goods which incorporate the products of its industry, and one other SWP whose report has not been published recommended against any increase in the rate on one product area. A number of other SWPs made recommendations about the need for stability in economic policy, some referring in general terms to taxation.
