381WThe agencies of the Manpower Services Commission are doing all they can to help these men and women to find jobs or to acquire new skills. It is estimated that over 1,600 people in the Ormskik and Kirkby areas have so far been helped by the Government's special employment measures. The extension of the temporary employment subsidy and the introduction of the new job introduction scheme for disabled people, both of which were announced this week, should help those who are currently unemployed in Kirkby and Ormskirk.
As regards the last part of the Question, a considerable number of those people registered as unemployed are essentially in the transition between one job and another. The time taken to find work will vary considerably between individuals.
