asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many 14 to 16-year-old girls were in (a) prisons and (b) remand centres at the latest available date; and how many of them were 14-year-olds;

(2) how many 14 to 16-year-old girls were in (a) prisons and (b) remand centres at the latest available date.

On 28th February 1977 there were 15 girls aged 15 or 16 in prison in England and Wales, and 10 in remand centres. There were no 14-year-old girls in Prison Service establishments on that day.
