HC Deb 04 April 1977 vol 929 c374W
Mr. Adam Butler

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will allow death grant to be paid in respect of all those who at present are eligible for reduced rate of grant or not eligible at all on account of age.

Mr. Orme

No. I think the present contributory basis of the grant remains appropriate.

Mr. Adam Butler

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is his estimate of the number of elderly people who on grounds of age are (a) eligible for death grant at the reduced rate and (b) not eligible for death grant at all; and what would be the cost of paying death grant at its present rate in full in both cases.

Mr. Orme

Up-to-date figures will shortly be available, and I shall then publish them in theOfficial Report.
