How much money will be saved per annum if the decision to close the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital is implemented; and how much money would be saved per annum if: he same number of beds were closed at the Whittington Hospital.
§ Lord WELLS-PESTELLI would refer the noble Lord to the Written Answer given in another place on Monday 18th October by my right honourable friend the Secretary of State for Social Services. The present annual costs of the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital are about £950,000 for inpatients and £150,000 for outpatients. Capital expenditure estimated at over £500,000 would be necessary to put the existing Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital buildings into a proper state of repair and to upgrade the fabric of the hospital. A similar number of beds at the Whittington cost about £475,000 per year. Final relocation may entail capital costs but should also allow realisation of the present site value.
