§ 72. Sir Anthony Royleasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she will take steps to enable museums such as the Victoria and Albert to remain open seven days a week in order to sustain public interest.
§ Miss Margaret JacksonI have great sympathy with the hon. Member's desire that the departmental Museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, should be open for as long as possible. The museums will do as much as they can with the resources and manpower available, but in the present economic situation they cannot be unaffected by Government decisions to limit expenditure and reduce the Civil Service. I do not share the view that public interest in the collections will be reduced.
