§ Mr. Russell Johnstonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has plans to construct further nuclear plants in Scotland.
§ Mr. Gregor MacKenzieIn February 1975 the South of Scotland Electricity Board was given consent to the use of a site at Torness, East Lothian, for the construction of a steam generating heavy water reactor (SGHWR) power station. No work on the construction of the station will be undertaken before the review of the future of the SGHWR programme, which we are carrying out as part of our overall review of energy policy, is completed. An application for consent under Section 2 of the Electric Lighting Act 1909 to the construction of a third nuclear power station at Hunterston, Ayrshire, is at present before my right hon. Friend, but this has not yet been advertised pending the outcome of preliminary consultations.
