HC Deb 21 October 1976 vol 917 cc543-4W
Ms. Colquhoun

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection when he intends to publish the report on the review of the Trades Description Act 1968, which was carried out under the chairmanship of the former Director General of Fair Trading.

Mr. John Fraser

The report was laid before Parliament yesterday and has been published today. I am grateful to Mr. Methven for presiding over its preparation, and for the thorough and comprehensive review he and his colleagues have carried out.

They found that the Act was generally fulfilling its purpose, but they have suggested a number of ways in which it might be improved, notably in respect of misleading indications of price and misdescriptions of services. As I said in answer to a Question from the hon. Member for Brentwood and Ongar (Mr. McCrindle) on 11th October—[Vol. 917, c. 10.]—we shall carefully consider the report's recommendations and announce in due course our intentions regarding their implementation.
