HC Deb 21 October 1976 vol 917 c535W
Mr. Richard Wainwright

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what agricultural acreage in the United Kingdom has been used for growing potatoes in each of the last five years; and what is his estimate of the acreage to be used for potato growing in the coming year.

Mr. Bishop

The area planted to potatoes in the United Kingdom for the last five years was:

Hectares Acres
1972 237,000 (584,000)
1973 225,000 (555,000)
1974 215,000 (532,000)
1975 204,000 (503,000)
1976 (provisional) 223,000 (551,000)

It is too early to make any estimate of likely plantings in 1977.
