HC Deb 21 October 1976 vol 917 c503W
20. Mr. Jessel

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he intends to let Mr. Thorsen enter the United Kingdom.

24. Mr. Robert Cooke

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will use his powers to prevent the entry into the United Kingdom of persons who have declared their intention to make within the United Kingdom films which are obnoxious to the great majority.

27. Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will take steps to prevent the entry of Mr. Thorsen into the United Kingdom for the purpose of making a film which is obnoxious to Christians.

Mr. Merlyn Rees

I share the strong feelings that have been expressed about the proposed film, but the appropriate time to consider whether there are grounds to exercise my powers to refuse entry to an EEC national is when the person concerned arrives at a port and can be questioned about the nature and proposed duration of his visit. Accordingly, the formal decision in Mr. Thorsen's case will be made if and when he seeks admission.
