Food Imports (Duties and Levies)

Mr. Gould

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what were the total amounts paid by way of EEC Customs duties and import levies on food imports in 1973 and each succeeding year; and what estimate is made of such amounts for each year until 1979.

Net receipts of protective duties on imported foodstuffs and levies on agricultural imports were:

The Budget estimate of revenue in the financial year 1976–77 from agricultural levies is £60 million. A separate estimate for import duties on foodstuffs is not available. It is not the practice to give estimates for future years before the Budget.
