§ Miss Margaret JacksonProblems of vandalism and wilful damage in schools are best tackled locally, by the schools themselves and the responsible departments of local authorities. Authorities are aware of the problems and their responsibilities; a group of them, the Consortium of Local Authority Special Programme, have, for example, recently prepared a useful note on practical steps against such damage. My Department offers advice, by discussion and through its publications, on the design and care of schools to reduce risk to life and premises by fire and other causes.
