Osbornasked the Secretary of State for Industry what projects, in co-operation with International Energy Agency, OECD, and the commission of EEC, he is proposing to the British engineering consultants and construction firms and the chemical industry for pilot plant development as part of the hydrogen energy carrier programme; what is the value of these projects; and whether any of the finance will be from international sources.

Hydrogen as an energy carrier is the responsibility of the Department of Energy. The EEC and IEA programmes are in the research phase and my Department has not proposed any pilot plant developments.
