§ Mr. Whiteheadasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will set up an independent inquiry into recent disturbances at Hull prison and their origins, and publish its findings.
§ Mr. Merlyn ReesAs announced on 17th September, I decided that the Chief Inspector of the Prison Service should undertake an inquiry with the following terms of reference
To inquire into the cause and circumstances of the events at H.M. Prison, Hull, during the period 31st August to 3rd September, 1976; and to report.The inquiry is already in progress. The question of publication will be among the matters I shall wish to consider when I have received and studied the report.
