asked the Secretary of State for Trade whether he will instruct his Department fully to investigate the affairs of Slater Walker Securities along the lines of the recent investigations made into London Counties Securities Ltd and Lonrho; and if he will make a statement.

The reports of the accountants appointed by Slater Walker Securities Limited to investigate that company's affairs are under consideration. My right hon. Friend has already exercised his powers under Section 109 of the Companies Act 1967, and as a result criminal proceedings for breaches of Section 54 of the Companies Act 1948 have been instituted.
