Mr. Greville Tannerasked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he will issue a warning to drivers whose cars pass the MOT test that the visual test on safety belts cannot guarantee that such belts are operative and safe.
§ Mr. William RodgersThe only test method which can absolutely guarantee that a seat belt installation is operative and safe is a trial in the accident situation. Clearly this is impractical. But I shall bear in mind my hon. and learned Friend's suggestion that drivers should be warned.
