HC Deb 11 October 1976 vol 917 cc71-2W
Mr. Baker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) whether he will ensure that Miss Busky, a constituent of the hon. Member for the City of Westminster, St. Marylebone, who is severely handicapped, will be allowed to retain her car until further medical examination has determined whether she can effectively control a car with a hand clutch;

(2) whether, if the medical examination of Miss Busky shows that she cannot effectively control a car with a hand clutch, he will provide her with a replacement car with automatic gears.

Mr. Alfred Morris

The Department's medical officers, who are charged with the responsibility of deciding what vehicle shall be supplied at Government expense, have advised that the controls on the Mini car supplied to Miss Busky are suitable. She declines to use the vehicle, however, and it would be indefensible to leave it unused.
