HC Deb 22 November 1976 vol 919 cc856-7W
Mrs. Millie Miller

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many local authorities have completely abolished selection for secondary education; how many comprehensive schools exist in each local education authority area; and how many children are being educated in each school.

Miss Margaret Jackson

By October 1976 22 local education authorities in England had completely abolished selection for secondary education. In a further 19 reorganisation was complete except for voluntary schools. The latest available list of comprehensive schools showing the numbers of pupils on roll in each case, is for January 1976 and covers 2,674 schools in England. I am sending my hon. Friend a copy of this list.
