§ Mr. Eldon Griffithsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many home owners have been sent letters by officials dealing with the survey of English house conditions; and how many homes have actually been surveyed and at what cost in professional surveyors' time.
§ Mr. ArmstrongLetters explaining the purpose of this, the third survey of its kind—the others having been conducted in 1967 and 1971—have been sent to all the 9,252 householders whose homes are included in the survey sample. In addition, approximately 200 replies have been sent to letters received from individual householders about the survey.
8,979 homes were actually inspected by the 45 local authority environmental health officers, who undertook the survey work during a period of six weeks, during which they were seconded full-time to my Department.
